What are Rodden Ratings in Astrology?
(+ why you always see me using them in celebrity observations)
Perhaps you’ve considered reading your favourite celebrity’s natal chart that you found on Astro.com, saw the words “Rodden Rating” and a seemingly miscellaneous letter next to it. If it was “C” or a “DD”… I’m sorry to let you know that the information you researched on, is potentially invalid since the source of the celebrity’s birth date and accurate birth time are still unknown.
I wanted to write this post to provide a bit of insight on the importance of credibility. None of us wants to spread misinformation right? So perhaps we should do the due diligence in researching our resources a bit more thoroughly… just as we would in any other field of study. We are taught citations for a good (ethical) reason, and online databanks have made it much easier for modern researchers and enthusiasts. So perhaps we should use them.
The Rodden Rating system was created by Canadian astrologer, data collector, and founder of Astro-databank— Lois Rodden. As her biography states, “she was the pioneer in raising awareness of the sourcing of data being foundational in the credibility of astrology.”
Especially since she was known to collect exact data from several public figures, and had grown a vast resource for her own research, it is no wonder this system took off in the professional astrology community.
It is advised through Astro-databank, that information listed with AA, A, and B Rodden Ratings are deemed acceptable for research and readings, as they are sourced from a legitimate birth certificate, a friend or biography. Whereas C stands for “Caution,” since the proper source is missing, and DD refers to “Dirty Data” that was unreliably documented or needs more research surrounding the source.
Please feel free to click on the links I’ve sprinkled throughout this post if you’d like to read up on more formal explanations of this system!
