What are Astrology Dice?

Previously, we learned about Astragalomancy and the history of dice divination! This time, we’re going to dive into a specific form of this practice that incorporates astrology. According to the Occult World, the blend between astrology and divination (dice) has been around for quite a long time:

“European fortunetellers used a simplified and formulaic dice divination system descended from the late antique astrological practice called ’The Part of Fortune’ [or Geomancy]. Dice representing the planets would be thrown onto an astrological diagram of the ‘Houses’. The result was read as the part that luck would play in the different areas of a person’s life.”

However in our modern time, the Wessex Astrologer developed a new and simple Astro Dice divination method that consists of three d12 dies. Each of these die encompass different symbols and meanings to be interpreted once casted together:

Houses - Represents the area of life that will be affected or of concern

Signs - Represents the emotions involved in this situation

Planets - Represents the actions, circumstances or influences that affect the overall situation at hand

*If you are asking questions about people, such as a description of your future spouse, you should be interpreting the result as if it’s a natal chart placement:

5H Leo Neptune— The future spouse is popular or potentially famous. There’s a possibility that they are known for their artistic pursuits or idealistic and dreamy personality. They may be a natural with children, but perhaps a bit child-like themselves. Potential negative traits they’d have would be immaturity or egotism.

It is important for the querent to ask questions that are open-ended, similarly to how we consult Tarot. Yes/No questions are not ideal for this method of divination due to the fact that the message is meant to be read as a story. Think of the result as a sentence formation. If you are already well-versed in natal chart reading, this will be quite easy for you! Otherwise, Astro Dice can help beginner astrologers practice interpreting placements.

Ex. What is in store for me in the next week?

10H - Your work and public reputation will be in focus in the next week

Aries - This is potentially a new job or work that will evoke a sense of drive, passion or even chaos. If this is referring to a person, it may be your boss. Otherwise you will be stepping into a more demanding role

Jupiter - Blessings or expansion is involved. Considering how Aries showed up in this reading, as it represents newness— you may be receiving a promotion

Since Astro Dice sets rarely come with a guidebook, I have decided to provide an extensive list of keywords for each astrological symbol. This way, you can easily string together a message from your reading:
